Bought this one in 97 it had 67000 miles on it. Just pulled it out of the garage where it has been sitting since Nov. of 99.
I pulled the front suspension out this week for a rebuild. The car was put up because it got a little hairy around my favorite turn ;) and it was a little hard to pass the smog test.  >:(
My wonderful state of North Carolina grandfathered the car this year so no more smog tests.  ;D
I do however still have to retain the original smog equipment but the horsepower will continue to climb.  8) heh.
I've been collecting parts for the last few years so time for me to go to work. Will keep you abreast of the changes.
Jay

Here is Gary's (seventy7vette) motor
It is a sbc bored .030. Pistons are .125 domed, pro-hypereutetics. Like the close tolerence. Not a race engine, just street. 292 cam, 480 lift, in and out. #882 heads, Block decked, heads milled, thin shim head gasket. Compression is important to me. with the overlap of the cam , got to have it. All ARP studs and bolts in bottom end. edelbrock rpm. and my always faithfull, quadrajet. Hahahaha.  A lot of aluminum, chrome, and stainless. It is just for local shows and for just loving to drive it. I can tell much more of interest, but later.
   Thanks, Gary

Nice motor Gary!

The motor on our 77 was worn out when we bought it so we dropped in a 315hp GM crate motor.  Not real racey as she has an automatic tranny but she cruises real good and not too bad on the mileage.

Just noticed this post...Plug wires make a difference especially if you have a high voltage setup . If not just get good one to keep the radio noise down.

Wow, looking at these engines make me wonder how you guys keep them this clean? :o  You could eat off some of them. ;D

I don't drive in the rain or bad weather and try to avoid all standing water puddles, so not to splash water.  However my engine does not look nearly this good. :(

What do you do?  Are you doing something special, using something on them, high pressure washing them, or what?
Really would be interested in how it is done. ;)

Well I could tell you my wife cleans it , but that would be a lie. ::) When I first did the engine in 2003 I cleaned up the engine compartment..then again in 2008 & this time better. All I do is wipe it down every once in awhile, but I do have a lift so I can get under neat easily too. It looks cleaner in the pictures I think, but you can touch anything in there & not get your fingers dirty. All my cars have clean engines & I have pressure washed a few in my time. I don't like working on dirty >:( engines. Jack (either one) should pipe in here he's the detailer :D

Am I the only one installing a TPI engine into my C3?

I would post a photo except I'm in the process of disassembling it.  But, I would like to see some others' work.

The secret is to keep it clean on a regular basis. For me was once a week. Pretty easy if you do it that way. I've seen Alan's engines in person.... you can eat off those motors.

My shiny stuff is mostly polished aluminum,& I've found that no matter what I've done I get "stains" on it that wont come off easily.I used Zoopseal on my manifold & valve covers,& they still arent as shiny as I'd like.Would removing parts, having them buffed and clearcoated help?

Ok I figgured this out somewhat so here is some of the photobucket pictures I posted a link to earlier!

Still need to detail it up a bit. Now the next really hard decision is Sidepipes or leave the Straight pipes on... My dad says pipes.... here is a teaser photo from the seller  ::)

I know I will take better pictures after she is cleaned up!

AWESOME!!! :o  Clean and chromed. :D  Can't beat that. ;)  Good luck with the new vette, Steven.  Glad it all worked out so well for you.

I vote for sidepipes  ;) but I think everything should have sidepipes. ;D ;D

Below are pictures of the TPI on my 77'.  The air intake was nearly impossible to run.  Thus the white pvc 3" pipe making the "u-turn" (which now painted black and looks much better) and the 3" metal clothes dryer exhaust tubing, which runs over the driver's side of the engine, down into the space behind the wheel well, where there is a K&N air filter attached.  We extended all the wires on the Painless Wiring system, so that the computer could be placed in the rear area behind the driver's seat.  The engine is not the original engine, but it is a four bolt main, bored 60 over, with a mild cam, roller rockers.  The aluminum rad keeps it cool on the hotest Fl. days.   :D

I like how you painted the motor to match the Vette. I wish I would have done that. Well it's not to late I guess.

Awesome, nice and clean now. I always try and wipe down the engine each time I wash the car and armor all the hoses.

Finished~ tried to get it to look factory fresh! Nothing replaced, except for the aluminum hose, just cleaned & painted! (except for some decals ~ awaiting a sales booklet to confirm location!)

WOW, Bart. :o  You did an AMAZING AND FANTASTIC job on it.  Did you pull the engine to work on it?  If not, how did you manage to paint things like the valve covers, block, fan shroud, etc.?  You certianly made a top flight vette look even better. ;) ;)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Thanks Dale!  Didn't take the block out, just removed all hoses, air cleaner, etc, took off the valve covers and wet sanded them outside the car & painted there.  Taped everything off and did just one area at a time. once dried, retaped and did another area, wet sanded each section again, and then repeated the process!  8-)  I'm glad it turned out as well as it did!   Notice the change in the master cylinder & booster?  tape and paint with Eastwood's CAD system!

fixed rearend, destroyed rear lower trailing arm bushings....

lather rinse repeat... ;D

Even the earlier C-3's can't handle a high TQ BB. My 68 twisted the left half shaft off in 2008 with Jack (yellowjacket) in the car getting on it in 2nd gear. Lucky to have half shaft loop protectors installed or it would have destroyed the car. I installed HD half shafts & splicer u joints should be good for 800 lbs of TQ now. Since then I've detuned the engine to around 450hp & 550lb of tq at the rear wheels  which makes for a fun driver 8-)
