The perfect solution has been found!

Keisler Automotive engineering is now offereing a complete kit to install a modern Tremec 5-speed manual transmission into any C3 (1963 thru 1982) without any modifications to the car!  None!  Wow!

The Tremec unit has been modified to offer a lower first gear and a 32% reduction in RPM 5th gear leaving me the best of both worlds.  It is rated for 450HP, with an 650HP also available.  My 4,000RPM at 70MPH will soon be trimmed down to a comfortable 2800.

And yes, that will reduce wear and tear on a lot of engine components as well as making highway crusing with the top off a lot more enjoyable.

Gearing is 3.27, 1.98, 1.34, 1.0 and 0.68 for 5th gear.

I ordered the unit today and expect delivery in a 2 to 3 weeks.  It is supposed to be a simple 5 to 7 hour installation (I'm allowing a full weekend).  The transmission comes with a new performance drive shaft, speedometer gear, mount, neutral switch, wiring with factory connection for back-up lights, etc.

When installed it looks EXACTLY like stock unless you crawl underneath.  The interior remains identical to original factory. This also allows me to put everything back in a few hours to restore to original installation, and maybe move the tramsmission to another vette If I choose.  All sounds too good to be true.

The price is very reasonable for a modern more reliable and quieter transmission and especially when it comes in an all inclusive tailored for your car kit that makes no modifications.

Corvette Fever Magazine is supposed to feature this new transmission with installation instructions in their August edition.

Check it out at www.keislerauto.com/corvette_5speed.htm

I'll let you know how I make out later this month.  I'm really excited about this.  It is exactly what I had been searching for.
