I think I got carried away........nah, learned a lot today about the steering Cool thought I was 23 again so I'm taking tomorrow off to rest Undecided Shocked don't think they put any coating on the braces Embarrassed

Dropped all the rusted braces off at the powder coaters yesterday. Will have them ready on Monday. Was kinda set back when I saw all that rust Huh I know when I'm done it will be in better shape then when she was new Cool

The braces were assembled in the raw metal state, with a coating of oil. GM never built these cars to still be in service 30 plus years later................jack

Picked up the steering column braces from the powder coating place this morning Cheesy not only that, but I also found a five dollar bill in the parking lot in front of the auto parts place Smiley I'm smokin Grin

Was able to start the reassemble process. I did take pictures, but the assembly manual sure did help Wink

As soon as my seam sealer comes in I'll continue the assembly. I want to install the fuze box first and then hang the brackets and steering column.

Never had that apart.. So there's ball bearings in that ? Can you buy new parts. If so I'd do it. I don't like messing with anything iffy in a Steering column. I put a flaming river in my 68 14 yrs ago. I think the car was raced & the column was trash.

Alan,
Yes on the bearings. Looking at the pictures, the steering wheel is on the left and it slides up the bottom of the shaft. I think I will just repack the bearings and try to purchase the plastic bearing holder.
