Kim's Boss owns an 1964 riverside red white vinyl interior 4 wheel drum (power) brakes convertible 327/300 horse 2 speed powerglide transmission a fairly moderate optioned car for it's day, he had the car shipped 3 years ago to his son Dan in California who is USMC stationed at Miramar MCAS (Marine Corp Air Station) at San Diego anyway, Dan is being deployed so Joe had the car shipped back east and he shipped it to me I've done some work on the car about 20 years ago so, it arrived on Tuesday evening and he was there with me as they unloaded from the open air flatbed carrier needless to say, after 3500 miles and weather (this time of year) the Corvette was not looking too happy yesterday I went over the car initially after a thorough cleaning of the road grime and interior the car had been in storage the past 6 months while Dan was in training, it's going to need a complete interior carpets are shot seat covers torn door panels barely hanging on, I fixed a couple of small things yesterday the vent window crank was just laying on the floor needed a "c" clip, the glove box door was missing the Corvette script which was in the glove box I applied some adhesive lined up the guide pins and attached the script to the door, the Driver's window does not lower or raise and here's the most interesting part, it (glass) was just sitting on top of the regulator upper track in the groove and the groove for the vent window how this piece of glass made it across the country without falling out is anybody's guess. I'm going to remove the door panel and check the condition of the regulator and tracks/rollers (thinking it may need a new one here) the convertible top is in decent shape as I had replaced that for Joe about 8 years ago however while in storage a mouse made a small about 1/16" hole behind one of the bows, I need to research and see if the canvas can be patched or if he is looking at another top, and after vacation I will raise the car up on the "quick jack" lift and pull all four wheels, Dan said it is loosing Brake fluid so I'm going to check each wheel cylinder for condition, as the custodial keeper I can see a shake down run and numerous test drives in the near future it's good to get turning a wrench on a Corvette after all these years and It's something I do enjoy plus I'm keeping a log of hours worked, parts purchased, labor time ect. ect. so this is like a part time job (even if it's really a hobby) getting paid to play--my kind of job!

got her fired up (after we returned from vacation) ran pretty rough but, I suspect that is from sitting so long the fuel tank is low and probably never received a stabilizer additive, I took it around the block (after topping of the transmission) it ran pretty good shifted smooth but the tires are shot! squirrely would be one way to describe the handling so, that's on the list now as well. I am documenting every minute spent going over and fixing things on this car, Joe told me at one time while in California Dan was offered 50K for the car, given it's current state and list of things needed, I'd say he was foolish for not taking the offer. anyway, I have custody of the car for now and I will give it my best shot at making it safe to drive, it's too far gone to ever make a show piece or be a NCRS "top flight"
contender, it is a "survivor" class at this point and the lack of proper care over the past few years is evident, more to follow.

Get the money in the bank first before you do anything in fact I would have a few thousand buffer at all times. Factor in your labor too.

well, he paid for and I got the tires from Tire rack had them shipped to my house a local gas station charged 81.00 for mounting, balancing and disposing of the old tires so it's got new shoes but it needs brakes, no dash or tail lights work, driver's window regulator works but you have to manipulate the widow to get full travel looks like a broken guide track from what I can see without pulling the door panel. it has to get inspected and I'm just going to take it to the garage and let them go over the car fail it and give me a list of what it needs and I can pass that information on to the owner like I said the car was not cared for while in California and he should have taken the offer of 50K! so again my assessment of he could easily sink 100K into this car is not too far fetched!

Alan, well if I owned this particular car, given what it is (survivor)I would make it NCRS (NOT CORRECTLY RESTORED STINGRAY) and do just that for the value of the car roughly 35-40K an outlay of 4-5K for complete 4 wheel disc brakes would certainly make it a better driver! all I can do is make suggestions!

hard to believe my last post on this was October 6th and here we are almost in February and the car is unchanged, it still needs a complete repair of the front and rear suspensions, a new interior and some work on the left driver's window track and Passenger's vent window. I don't know what the car's owner wants to do or expects from me (not that I can do much after the surgery) but, I'm not putting any more into it time, Money, or effort until he has some working capital for me to draw on. I have taken it for some runs around the neighborhood to keep things rolling but that's it.

I'm done trying to get involved with this car Alan you're right Business IS Business after the pace-maker Kim and I decided to just let Joe get the car repaired at a shop of his choice, so, I took it for yet another estimate this guy is dangerous!!! now, he's just going to register it as an antique and get an antique license plate so he can drive it, he's at least 8 years removed from the last time he drove it as it was shipped to his youngest son out in California and he never took proper care of it and had it in storage for the past year, long story short, it needs (desperately needs) complete rebuild of front and rear suspensions and despite me and two other shops telling the owner this he still can't wrap his head around the fact the things wear out, to him, the car was NEVER driven enough (in the past ten years) to deteriorate so bad--ahh, but it has so, I'm done he wants to drive it fine drive it and when it breaks a trailing arm, or tie rod end, or the rear leaf spring, strut rod (take your pick) and it needs to be towed he will most certainly not be towing it back to me! I just hope he doesn't kill someone (or himself) driving this thing! but, some people have to learn the hard way I guess..............
