I Love my Corvette!

My wife is turning 50 and she has always loved the C3's - ideally 72 and before because of the chrome bumpers. I'm looking for an excellent condition, convertible driver. I haven't the slightest idea what is a reasonable price range one or what to avoid or look for. I look on Hemmings but the prices are all over the place. Any of your experience in finding the right one would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. Finding a 68-72 convertible in excellent condition is not gonna be easy. I would suggest finding people that have the model you are looking for & ask a million questions.  There are many things to look for & rust being the major problem. Everything else can be repaired. Find one that has a history of all work done. It should have a complete break make over, engine & trans plus suspension repairs or upgrades. Then you have to decide if you want stock of modified. If you want a driver go with modified as it'll probably have upgrades. Don't ever buy site unseen & if you aren't mechanical have a good mechanic check it over. Prices are all over because of condition & what the owner has invested. Lots of people ask way more than a car is worth & after sitting on it for a while will usually come down. I would suggest looking at smaller engines cause BB's cost lots more. Some day my 68 will be for sale but not yet Roll Eyes

Exactly what Alan said! Only thing I could add to his comments is to try and have a neutral party help you shop! While I shopped I think I fell in love with just about every car I saw! I'd have bought anything that fit the bill. My bride kept saying no to cars, explaining they were not what I was looking for!

Her cool, calm, level head kept me from buying something that did not fit the bill! MY BILL! LOL!

I ended up with similar to what you want!
Chrome bumpers convertible! I am very glad my wife kept me on focus!! Smiley

PS: Mine is not for sale.  Cheesy
