i just bought a 77 c-3 a month ago i want to add headers but i don't want them scrapping the ground at every bump in the road since this is the best place to ask ?'s is there a set of headers you know of that have good ground clearance or a shorty fit header that is a direct bolt on to stock exhaust

Not sure I've ever heard of a direct bolt on header, but they might exist. Call some of the manufactures & ask.   The exhaust always has to be modified on all I installed.. A shorty header is probably the way to go if it's a stock engine so you keep some of the low end tq. I've installed headers from various manufactures over the years some were good & some bad. If you can afford it get ceramic coated...they'll last much longer.

If it was me I'd go with the 2.5" ram horns. They work well & you won't get the excessive heat like headers. I have them on my 68 BB & actually took the headers off ..gained lots more low end TQ. 550ftlbs at the rear wheels now. I have considered installing them on my 77 also...it makes it easier to get to the plug & wires.
