Hey Alan! In 1968 they toyed with having a mid-engine then... and it looked pretty good. Kept the Corvette sweeping fender look too. Here are pics of what they called

But none of them looked as good as that blue 68 version... I really like that one. Wonder where it is at now?

Zora-Arkus Duntov pushed hard for a mid engine Corvette from the  late 50's the closest they actually got was in 1972 an actual car with running gear and a cobbled up interior was rushed into the Waldorf-Astoria Auto show and press release handouts were given that gave specifications (curb weight, horsepower, dimensions ect. ect.) it was to be the all new 1973 Corvette but the Arab fuel embargo hit, the Corvette became a more refined boulevard cruiser and Duntov retired in 1975.
