Restoring my '78 Silver Anniversary after storage in my garage for 21 years. After using STA-BIL, driving about 1 mile to the gas station, and filling up the fuel tank at the pump, the gauge indicates "off scale high" meaning way more than full.

Driving the car to the gas station, I noticed the fuel gauge would change indications, one minute its 1/2 tank, then maybe switching to 3/4, then later back to 1/2, etc. I'm confused as to what the problem is.
Can anybody help?

Probably the sending unit in the tank.  I believe you will have to drop the tank, then take the sending unit out & check it with a ohm meter. If you check on google you'll fing the correct readings. Not sure if the 78 has a bladder like the 77 but if it does that can cause problems too. If it was me I'd install a new gas tank without the bladder & have a full 20 gallon tank.
